One of the first things a new chapter should focus on is establishing chapter bylaws. Chapter bylaws are rules and regulations to establish membership expectations, guidelines, and chapter policies.

Your Chapter Success Director should provide you with a bylaw template and example for you to format your specific bylaws.

Chapter bylaws should include:

  • Membership expectations & rules

  • Points system / attendance requirements

  • New member voting procedures

  • Executive board voting procedures

  • Duties and expectations of elected and appointed positions

  • Process of how to remove an elected executive board member (vote of no confidence)

  • Membership removal & disciplinary process 

  • Dues

  • How to amend bylaws 

As indicated above, chapter bylaws can be amended. This includes additions, removals, or overall changes of your chapter bylaws to appropriately reflect your chapter policy. It is important to establish a process to make amendments so that the bylaws can evolve as your chapter does.
