What is a Standards Board?

A standards board is an elected group of chapter members who regulate, uphold, and enforce the chapter and national bylaws. Additionally, standards board serves as a check and balance to the executive board to ensure that all bylaws are being followed.

Requirements & Expectations:

A typical standards board is made up of 3 or 5 members. It is important to keep an odd number on the standards board to avoid tie votes. These are elected positions, however, each chapter should identify qualification requirements for candidates to ensure that they are in good standing and active participants within the chapter, as well as having an extensive knowledge of the chapter bylaws & processes/procedures. It’s also expected that the standards board will hold each situation of the same premise to the same standard, and ensure no biases are present when dealing with situations that may arise.
