PGN Travels to Italy

In the Winter Semester of 2023, Paige Bunker, a member of PGN at the University of Michigan, set out on a journey to study abroad in Sorrento, Italy.

At Sant’Anna Institute, Paige’s area of study focused on the humanities and social sciences. Her interest in learning more about Italian culture led her to take on a wide variety of courses, including Local Marine Biology, the History of Italian Food and Culture, Global Business: Italy and Tourism, and Introductory Italian Language. Her mission: getting immersed and connected to her new home.

“While I was abroad, apart from my studies I had many opportunities to travel throughout Italy as well as nearby European countries, which was a life-changing experience in and of itself. I visited Rome, Florence, Positano, Capri, and Palermo, and I also traveled to various new countries like France, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, and more. On these trips, I immediately fell in love with meeting and connecting with people from all sorts of backgrounds, as well as learning about the histories and cultures of each new place. In other words, my travels completely expanded my horizons. I believe that living abroad for four months and having to overcome the unique challenges that came along with it helped me grow as a person. I learned so much about myself and who I would like to become one day.“

“After a semester in Italy, I can say that this experience has completely changed my life. It has even transformed my future aspirations. I feel so grateful to have had such an incredible experience, something that could not have happened without the generous support of the PGN Scholars Foundation.”
